All About Curtain Hanging Methods

There are many ways to apply curtains to your interior design project. Most of them involve embellishing a window. However, there are other feasible methods you can explore. Let’s go over the basics before we dive into the plethora of possibilities.

Covering The Basics
No doubt about it, curtains add a bit of flair to the average window. This remarkable feature can add a touch of sophistication, luxury, or fun. If, that is, the fabric is paired with applicable patterns, textures, or themes.

Developing a keen eye to spot what collectively works and what doesn’t takes a bit of experience. Until this observational gift is acquired, interior designers can use the following list to kick start their curtain installation know-how.

Measure a window’s width and length
Jot down the distance from the top of the window to the floor
Use this info to determine how much curtain fabric is needed
Mark where you want to put the curtain rod brackets
Check they are level on both sides
Then double check before fastening the brackets to the wall
Add rod capable of handling curtain fabric weight
Equip curtain, step back, and ensure it looks level

Once everything is in place, check the bottom of your curtains. Make sure they are not excessively flowing out onto the floor. If they are, take the time to hem or tack them up to prevent possible tripping hazards.

Beyond Installation
After putting up a couple sets of curtains, interior designers will likely feel confident enough to take on more challenging projects. The ideal place to start is practicing rod embellishment.

For example, standard curtain rods can be very fashionable if you add decorated endings or cover up the brackets. But bear in mind, regardless of which endings you go with, both sides should match each other as well as the look you are going for.

Adventurous designers can also break away from the traditional metal pole altogether. To do so, play around with some less conventional options.

They are likely just as viable. If you do pursue this option, take the time to ensure the substitute you use doesn’t damage your designer fabric.

Equip Curtains With Designer Tops
Deciding how to present your curtain fabric may start with selecting the pattern and length. But it ends with how you choose to hang said textile from the rod. Or painted tree branch if that’s your fancy. A bunch of curtain attachment styles exist and they are all fabulous. Here are a select few.

Rod Pocket
Grommet
Tab Top
French Pleats
Ring Top
European Pleats
Goblet Pleats

Each style is capable of adding a touch of class or a bit of fun to your curtain’s final look. So be sure to take this into consideration before deciding which one to go with in your interior design project.

Add Subtle Embellishments To Your Curtains
Typically, curtains are in one of two positions. Opened or closed. There is very little designer wiggle room available when curtains are closed. However, the same cannot be said for when they are open.

For example, designers can tie back curtains with various complimentary fabrics, textiles, and patterns. Feasible items you may want to consider in your project include rope, silky ribbon, or a thick strip of the same fabric used to create the curtains.

Break Away From Tradition
You do not have to use your curtain fabric to decorate a window. As we mentioned above, there are a bunch of novel ways you can use the curtain concept to spruce up your home. For example, they can be used to decorate various archways and doorways.

This method creates an illusion of separation while adding a bit of excitement to the surrounding area. Plus, it seriously beats having to look at an unwanted or unusually placed door.

Curtains are versatile and practical. They have the potential to enhance any interior design if you know how to implement them properly. To get started exploring what curtains have to offer, find a fabric that fits into your upcoming interior design project. Decide where and how you want to use that fantastic textile, then get to work!

Are you Getting the Most Out of your Interior Design

It finally happened. You decided your home interior could use a makeover. Congratulations!

The next step is to embark on an epic design journey. Ideally, this starts with choosing a colour palette and picking vibrant fabric patterns. Knowing this info upfront makes it easy to conduct reupholstery exploration, curtain embellishments, and more. But that’s just to get the ball rolling.

Once you have a variety of design ideas to choose from it’s pretty easy to fall into the “pick one and hope for the best” trap. However, this kind of method can leave you with major “what ifs” later on. Especially if that design becomes turns dull on week three.

Fortunately, we’ve got a better method for picking designs. Find out more below.

Explore a Bunch of Interior Design Options
Falling in love with an interior design idea based on a specific designer fabric is not unheard of. That said, accurately complimenting the textile you have in mind can be simplified by exploring a bunch of options. These choices range from textured patterns to solid fabric colours. And even odd, yet complimentary, furniture decor.

Which is why taking the time to explore design options is a cornerstone in any remodelling project. So treat yourself to a mixture of possibilities. Try to find the pattern and colour combo that is capable of bringing out various aspects of yourself, or family.

That way your home is a reflection of those living there and above all else, unique.

Design Around Purpose
Think about the location you are redesigning. Specifically, what goes on there on a day-to-day basis. For example, if you and yours spend the majority of your time in the living room, the interior should probably be designed for comfort. And preferably with something interesting to look at from time to time.

Another element to consider is long-term side effects. Namely, health related and emotional byproducts associated with the chosen decor. Here are a few examples to consider.

• Shades of blue to generate a calm feeling
• Potted plants to decrease carbon-dioxide levels
• Textured and themed wallpaper can spark your imagination

Go With a Suitable Interior Design to Get Motif
There are plenty of design options out there. Not all of them are going to make you feel relaxed or comfortable. To get a better grasp on which direction you want to go, tinker with fabric patterns, designer upholstery, and color palettes. Then, sit and evaluate how they make you feel. Try to isolate which design combos match the mood you are going for before moving forward.

Plan For All Rooms to Get The Most Benefit
It may take a bit more time, but consider redecorating the entire house at the same time. Or at least all of the main areas. Rooms you occupy frequently are visually going to lose their newness faster than areas used less often. By combining this newness effect across a variety of rooms, the phase of “getting accustomed to the look” is extended. Which can make the interior design feel brand new for a long period of time.

Explore Fine Details of Each Design
Obvious additions, such as a reupholstered chair, tend to stand out immediately, then subside over time. As this occurs, you can balance out the transition. Include fine, minuet details when and where appropriate. This will ensure you have different and exciting features to retain your focus as time goes on. An ideal feature to consider is elaborate wallpaper patterns embedded with scenes. Or hand-picked curtains that enhance the look you are going for.

Alter Visual Room Shape To Improve Interior
To the uninitiated, an interior design project is severely limited to its architectural design. Namely, in regards to an area’s size. Fortunately, this simply is not the case for most rooms. If you desire a room to look larger, or smaller, than it actually is utilize an appropriate color palette.

A good rule of thumb to use is bright shades enlarge and dark hues decrease. So, if you have an open floor plan but want a particular area to feel cozy and snug, plan on embellishing that spot with darker colors.

But regardless of which interior design you opt to go with, make sure you get the most out of it. Evaluate a design’s longevity potential, day-to-day compatibility, and possible effects prior to implementation. Bear in mind, discovering the optimal design solution to match your lifestyle may take a bit of experimenting.

Have you ever been awake at night because the room wasn’t dark enough? Let’s pull back the curtain for you and show you what can help with this problem. In FR-One’s range of dim-outs and black-outs you find great designs and colour palettes. No more need for eye masks, you can keep those for the airplane.

We spent most of the day indoors, so whenever we can, we love to let the sun in through high windows. In contemporary architecture we see a lot of daylight use. However, for reasons of dimming, privacy and glare protection, some rooms need to have curtains that can control the light coming in. Meeting rooms need to be darkened for beamer presentations and reflection of sunlight on computer screens can be distracting. Nursing homes, hotels, hospitals, laboratories, all have reasons to keep out the light. Dim out and black out curtains are not only for contract use, anybody who wants to keep the light out of a room will need these kind of drapery fabrics.

FR-One inherently flame retardant dim out curtains are not only functional in their opacity qualities but also offer a decorative aspect with a wide range of colour options that will work in any design scheme. We offer the best solutions for light and glare protection.

The Ataton and Aten ranges give you a wide choice of different shades. If you are looking for easy neutral shades with a ‘barely there’ effect that opens up the space you will find lots of inspiration in the 28 colours we offer. We even have white and cream ‘black-out’ fabrics in the collection that are prefect for minimalistic interiors and give the room a light and stylish feeling.

For a more decorative input we have created a series of amazing printed dim outs. The Gossian collection brings a delicate tone with watercolour effect in lovely shades of pastels and neutrals. The Grandioso collection is opulent in its strong colour palette and the eye-catching designs. Wide striped metallic prints or dramatic damasks will make your space look fabulous.

Why You Should Switch to Fire Retardant Curtains for your Interiors?

Curtains are an essential furnishing to all buildings from homerooms to institutional buildings. You already know that accidents like fires happen and when they do, curtains are among the first to burn. But do you know that there are fireproof curtains? Read on.

Fire retardant curtains are made from fabrics that do not catch fire easily. They fall into three categories- smoke, fire and hybrid curtains. While they may not extinguish flames as fire extinguishers do, they reduce the spread of fire. By so doing, they minimize damages hence protecting your property in the event of a fire. This is the main reason why you should get the curtains.

The most effective fire retardant curtains are those made from inherently fire retardant polyester fabric. The best thing about them is that they have no added chemicals. Better yet, they are permanently fire retardant; implying that they are durable and easy to maintain

But wait, there is more. These curtains should satisfy given standards and regulations. Unfortunately, not all stores are up to the standards. Therefore, it is critical that you choose a reliable seller.

Every fabric stocked by FR-One is inherently fire retardant. Stocking a wide variety of 3000+ fabrics, you can’t miss your favorite. FR-one products have been rigorously tested, and they meet the highest standards of quality.

A Comparison between Natural and Treated Flame Retardant Fabric

One thing to celebrate about is that a fabric’s flammability can be radically minimized via the use of flame retardants. Various inherent fibers such as cotton, can be treated tropically using chemicals that minimize the fabric’s combustibility to the degree of becoming almost non-combustible. In an event of fire, the chemicals react with the tars and gases emitted inherently by the fabric. The gases and tar generated are then converted to carbon char which drastically slows the burning rate of the fabric.

Natural flame retardant fibers are simply materials with flame resistance built into their chemical composition and can never be washed out or worn away. Normally, when an inherent fire-resistant fabric gets exposed to fire, its fibers bloat and become thicker thus developing a shielding barrier amid the source of heat and the skin. The protective barrier offers the wearer a few crucial seconds of safety to escape by remaining supple until its temperature lowers.

As for treated flame-retardant upholstery fabrics, the materials are made to resist fire through applying flame-retardant chemicals. These are chemicals added to either the treatment or fiber used in the fabric to offer flame retardancy. So as to extinguish flame in an event of fire, fabrics that are chemically dependent usually depend on a chemical reaction. The reaction is activated by the heat produced and the time the fabric is exposed to flames.
